HFEA (Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority) states that around 50.000 women did IVF in Great Britain in 2013. Moreover, the number of cycles made exceeds 64.000. Tough it’s difficult to say how many IVF cycles will be done next year, this year’s number is definitely a record.
The average age of the patients is 35, the same being last year. Most of them are under 37, while 70% is in mature age.
Analyzing the statistics, the researchers came to a conclusion that the number of extracorporeal fertilization cycles for same sex couples has increased in 1/5 folds in 2012 in comparison to 2011.
However, HFEA experts point out that success rates of English clinics haven’t increased and remain at the mark of 25% on the average. It’s a relatively low result in comparison to many other clinics worldwide using IVF for infertility treatment.
